Barcelona beyond the Sagrada Família: neighbourhoods, viewpoints and markets

September 28, 2026 · Streetly

Barcelona

Barcelona combines Modernist architecture, the sea and lively neighbourhoods. The big classics fill up early, so book the essentials and leave time for streets, viewpoints and less obvious markets.

Gaudí without surprises

The Sagrada Família and Park Güell are very popular and usually require a timed-entry ticket. Book ahead and check which areas are paid before you go.

Gothic Quarter and El Born

Narrow streets, hidden squares and workshops. Getting lost first thing, before the tour groups arrive, is the best way to enjoy it.

Viewpoints off the circuit

The Bunkers del Carmel and the Turó de la Rovira offer 360-degree views over the city. Go late in the afternoon and bring water.

Markets and sea

La Boqueria is very well known and often packed; markets such as Sant Antoni are a more local alternative. La Barceloneta is ideal for walking by the sea.
