Seville Beyond the Postcard: Alcázar, Triana and Neighbourhood Tapas

October 20, 2026 · Streetly

Seville

Seville smells of orange blossom, sounds of guitars and lives on the street. Here is how to see its monuments without long waits and where to eat tapas with the locals.

Cathedral, Giralda and Royal Alcázar

The Cathedral and Giralda tower, the Royal Alcázar and the Archivo de Indias form the monumental core. Book Alcázar tickets ahead and tour the gardens first thing, when there are fewer people and the heat is gentler.

Plaza de España, María Luisa Park and Torre del Oro

Plaza de España, inside María Luisa Park, is at its best early in the morning, with soft light and few visitors. A walk along the Guadalquivir leads to the Torre del Oro. For a different view, climb the Setas de Sevilla at sunset.

Tapas like a Sevillano

The plan is to hop from bar to bar with a small beer and one tapa at each: spinach with chickpeas, pork sirloin in whisky sauce, montaditos or pringá. Triana, with its market, and El Arenal have authentic bars. The farther from the Cathedral, the better and cheaper.

Neighbourhoods, flamenco and heat

The Santa Cruz quarter is a maze of whitewashed lanes and orange-tree squares. Cross the bridge to Triana for ceramic workshops and small-scale flamenco. In summer, sightsee in the morning, rest at midday and head out again in the evening.

Practical tips

  • Book the Alcázar and Cathedral ahead to avoid long queues.
  • In summer, concentrate sightseeing in the morning and find shade at midday.
  • Eat tapas away from the monumental centre: more authentic and cheaper.
  • Many places close in the mid-afternoon, so plan your meals with some margin.
